Mostly no. NIMCET 2026 counselling, including the special round, finished in July 2026, and private-university MCA batches began in August–September. A few universities still admit into vacant seats in October. For most students the next window is MCA admission 2027 — NIMCET registration has typically opened in March, and private universities start taking applications from early in the year.
NIMCET 2026 registration closed on 1 May 2026, with the exam on 6 June. Private universities had no common deadline and mostly kept MCA admissions open until July–August 2026.
Yes. NIMCET is only for MCA seats at NITs. Private universities admit MCA students without NIMCET, based on graduation marks, their own aptitude test, or direct admission.
MCA is now a 2-year (4-semester) programme at most universities after the UGC curriculum revision. Some universities still run a 3-year format, so confirm the duration before applying.
A bachelor degree in BCA, B.Sc CS/IT, or any degree with Mathematics at 10+2 or graduation level, with 50–55% marks. Many private universities also accept BBA or B.Com with 12th-level Maths.
For most PSU and government IT recruitment, GATE eligibility and UGC-NET, MCA is listed alongside MTech (CS/IT) as an eligible qualification. MTech is generally preferred only for core research and some academic roles.

MCA from a private university is fully eligible for GATE, PSU IT recruitment, government IT jobs (SSC-CPO IT, UPSC CS, and state-level IT posts), and academic positions (with NET). The UGC’s 2022 revision making MCA a 2-year programme has also made it more aligned with BTech in employer perception.
