NEET Counselling Documents 2026

PwD (Disability) Certificate
ConditionalOnly for PwD candidates. Min 40% disability. Issued by authorised medical board.
J&K Migrant Certificate
ConditionalOnly for J&K migrant candidates claiming special quota.
State Counselling — Additional Documents
These are required for state quota counselling (85% of govt MBBS seats), in addition to all MCC documents above.
State Domicile / Nativity / Residency Certificate
Issued by SDM/Tehsildar/DM. Most critical document for 85% state quota. Validity varies by state (1–3 years).
OBC Non-Creamy Layer Certificate
Must be from FY 2025-26. Issued by SDM. Central OBC list ≠ State OBC list — verify which applies for your state.
SC/ST Caste Certificate
From Tehsildar/District Magistrate. Some states (Maharashtra, Karnataka) require a separate Caste Validity Certificate.
EWS Certificate
Issued by Tahsildar/SDM. Family income < Rs. 8L/yr. Valid for FY 2025-26.
Gap Certificate / Affidavit
If gap between Class 12 and NEET attempt year. Notarised affidavit on stamp paper.
Migration Certificate

Parent's Residence Proof
For domicile verification — voter ID, ration card, or electricity bill in parent's name.
Income Certificate
For scholarship eligibility and some state EWS verification. Issued by Tahsildar.
Minority Community Certificate
Only for minority institution seats. From State Minority Commission or designated authority.
Category Certificate Guide
Wrong or expired category certificates are the #1 cause of document-related seat cancellations. Read these carefully.
OBC (Central List)
OBC Non-Creamy Layer Certificate
SDM / Tahsildar
Current FY (2025-26) only
Key Points:
Must explicitly state "Non-Creamy Layer". Caste must appear in Central OBC list. Distinguish from State OBC list — they differ.
Most Common Mistake: Using the 2024-25 certificate — it expires on March 31, 2025. New one required for FY 2025-26.
EWS (Economically Weaker Section)
EWS Income and Asset Certificate
Tahsildar / SDM
Current FY (2025-26) only
Key Points:
Family income < Rs. 8L/yr. Must not own agricultural land > 5 acres or house plot > 1000 sq ft in notified areas. Income check alone is not sufficient.
Most Common Mistake: Not checking the asset ownership criteria — students with income under Rs. 8L but owning property above limits are disqualified.
SC / ST
Caste Certificate
Tehsildar / District Magistrate
Permanent — but some states require Caste Validity Certificate separately
Key Points:
Caste name must exactly match the Central/State SC/ST schedule. Caste Validity Certificate needed in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and some other states.
Most Common Mistake: Not obtaining Caste Validity Certificate in states like Maharashtra — without it, SC/ST benefit may be denied even with a valid caste certificate.
PwD (Person with Disability)
PwD Certificate
District Medical Board / CMO
Permanent or temporary depending on disability type
Key Points:
Minimum 40% disability for reservation eligibility. Benchmark Disabilities only (as per RPwD Act 2016). Specify the disability type clearly.
Most Common Mistake: Certificate not specifying disability percentage or not from a recognised medical authority — leads to disqualification even if eligible.
Documents for College Reporting
After seat allotment — required when you physically report to your allotted medical college.
All MCC counselling documents (originals + 3 copies)
Seat allotment printout from mcc.nic.in
Security deposit receipt (MCC online payment confirmation)
Medical fitness certificate (from registered MBBS doctor — some colleges specify format)
Anti-ragging undertaking (self-declaration — available on MCC portal)
Bank account details for scholarship and stipend credit
10–12 additional passport-size photographs
Gap year / migration certificate if applicable
All original degree/marksheets (never leave originals at any stage)
8 Document Mistakes That Can Cancel Your Seat
Every single one of these is avoidable with 30 minutes of preparation.
Using an expired OBC NCL certificate
OBC NCL certificates expire each financial year. A 2024-25 certificate is invalid in 2026. Get a fresh one for FY 2025-26 before counselling opens — it takes 7–15 days.
Not getting domicile certificate for state quota
Domicile certificate is not needed for MCC AIQ. But it is the most critical document for the 85% state quota. Without it, you cannot participate in state counselling at all.
Carrying scan copies instead of originals
MCC helpdesks, state verification centres, and colleges do not accept scan copies as substitutes for originals. Always carry the physical original documents.
Not making enough attested photocopies
Carry 3–4 sets. MCC may need 2 sets, state counselling another set, and college reporting more. Run out of copies and you delay admission.
OBC certificate from State list instead of Central list for MCC
Central OBC list and State OBC list are different. MCC AIQ uses the Central OBC list. A certificate mentioning only State OBC caste may not be accepted for AIQ seats.
Forgetting the Transfer Certificate (TC)
TC from your last attended school/college is required at MCC document verification. It is not online — you must physically collect it from your institution in advance.
Not getting Caste Validity Certificate in states that require it
Maharashtra and Karnataka require a Caste Validity Certificate separately for SC/ST, in addition to the caste certificate. Without it, the SC/ST reservation benefit may be denied.
Missing the Migration Certificate when Class 12 was from a different state
If you studied Class 12 in State A but are claiming domicile quota in State B, you need a Migration Certificate from your Class 12 board. Many students discover this requirement only at verification.
6 Expert Tips for Document Preparation
From counsellors who have seen every document-related admission crisis.
Get all certificates at least 30 days before counselling
OBC NCL, EWS, domicile, and migration certificates take 7–21 days to process. Starting early prevents a last-minute scramble.
Self-attest every photocopy correctly
Self-attestation means your signature + the words "Self-Attested" on every copy. An unattested photocopy may be rejected at verification.
Verify OBC NCL is from the current financial year (2025-26)
This is the single most common document error. Check the date on your OBC NCL certificate carefully.
Store all documents in a single organised folder
Two sections: originals and copies, labelled by document name. Searching through a pile under time pressure at a helpdesk leads to errors.
Email PDFs of every document to yourself
PDFs backup: registration confirmations, allotment letter, receipts. If a physical document is lost, the PDF is not a substitute at reporting — but helps in re-obtaining the original quickly.
Verify state-specific requirements separately for each state you register in
State counselling requirements vary. Maharashtra needs Caste Validity. Some states need 1-year domicile, others 5-year. Check the official portal of your specific state authority.

NEET Document FAQs
What documents are needed for MCC counselling?
NEET scorecard, Class 10 certificate, Class 12 marksheet + pass certificate, Aadhaar, passport photos, Transfer Certificate, and category certificate if applicable. Originals + 3 attested copies of each.
Is domicile certificate required for MCC?
No — MCC AIQ is nationwide and does not require domicile. Domicile is required for state quota counselling (85% of govt seats).
Can I use my old OBC NCL certificate?
No. OBC NCL certificates expire each financial year. A 2024-25 certificate is invalid for 2026 counselling. Get a fresh FY 2025-26 certificate.
What if a document is missing at college reporting?
Colleges can deny admission if a mandatory document is missing. Some give 7–10 days grace, but it is not guaranteed. Always arrive with all documents.
How many photocopies should I carry?
At least 3–4 sets of self-attested copies of every document. MCC + state + college reporting all need separate sets.
What is Migration Certificate and when is it needed?
Required if Class 12 was studied in a different state than where you are claiming domicile quota. Obtained from your Class 12 board.
Do I need Caste Validity Certificate for SC/ST?
In most states, the caste certificate is sufficient. But Maharashtra and Karnataka require a separate Caste Validity Certificate for SC/ST reservation. Check your specific state.
What documents are needed at AIIMS?
AIIMS seats are filled through MCC. Documents are the same as standard MCC counselling — no separate AIIMS document list.
