About Engineering Physics

Engineering Physics is a 4-year B.Tech programme combining core physics — quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, statistical and solid-state physics, optics — with engineering subjects such as electronics, photonics, semiconductor devices, computational methods, and instrumentation. Admission is through JEE Advanced for the IITs and JEE Main for NITs and other institutes. The programme is offered at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, NIT Calicut, DTU Delhi, and several other institutions. Annual tuition ranges from ₹60,000 at NITs to ₹2.2 lakh at IITs. Being research-oriented, many graduates pursue an M.S. or PhD in India or abroad in physics, photonics, quantum technologies, and materials science, while others join semiconductor, optics, energy, and space organisations (ISRO, BARC, DRDO) or move into software, quantitative finance, and data science, where strong mathematical training is valued.
