Forensic Science programmes in India include the 3-year B.Sc, 2-year M.Sc, and integrated B.Sc–M.Sc degrees covering forensic biology and DNA analysis, forensic chemistry and toxicology, questioned documents, fingerprints, ballistics, cyber forensics, and forensic psychology. Admission is through CUET or university-specific entrance tests, with eligibility of 10+2 in the science stream. Leading institutions include the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) Gandhinagar — India's only dedicated forensic university — LNJN National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science Delhi, Amity Institute of Forensic Sciences, and forensic departments at central and state universities. Annual fees range from ₹20,000 at government universities to ₹1.5–3 lakh at private institutions. Graduates work in central and state Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs), the CBI and police departments, private forensic and DNA-testing labs, banks and insurance companies (fraud investigation), and cyber-forensics teams, or pursue research and teaching. Demand is rising as courts increasingly rely on forensic evidence.
