Rural Management is a specialised postgraduate management discipline (PGDM/MBA in Rural Management or Development Management) that applies management principles to agriculture, cooperatives, dairy, microfinance, rural marketing, natural-resource management, and development programmes. The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) is the flagship institution, admitting students through CAT, XAT, or its own IRMASAT; other programmes are offered by XIM Bhubaneswar, KIIT School of Rural Management, and the Xavier Institute of Social Service Ranchi. Some universities also run BA/B.Sc programmes in Rural Development. Fees range from ₹5–15 lakh for the full postgraduate programme. Curricula combine classroom learning with extended village fieldwork segments. Graduates work with cooperatives (Amul, IFFCO), NABARD and rural banks, microfinance institutions, agri-businesses, FMCG rural-marketing teams, development consultancies, CSR foundations, and NGOs, with placement packages typically ranging from ₹7–14 LPA.
