Social Work education in India comprises the 3-year BSW and the 2-year MSW, with specialisations in Community Development, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Human Resource Management and Labour Welfare, Family and Child Welfare, Criminology and Correctional Administration, and Disaster Management. Admission uses TISSNET (for the Tata Institute of Social Sciences), CUET, and university entrance tests. Leading institutions include TISS Mumbai, Delhi University's Department of Social Work, the Madras School of Social Work, Loyola College Chennai, and Christ University. Annual fees range from ₹10,000–₹40,000 at government universities to ₹1–4 lakh at private institutions, and MSW programmes involve extensive supervised fieldwork. Graduates work with NGOs and development organisations, CSR teams of corporates, government welfare departments and schemes, hospitals and de-addiction centres, child- and women-protection agencies, UN bodies, and research institutions as project officers, programme managers, medical social workers, counsellors, and policy researchers.
