Textile Engineering & Design Courses, Colleges & Career Paths

Textile programmes in India span the engineering side — 4-year B.Tech in Textile Technology, Textile Engineering, Fibre Technology, and Man-Made Fibre Technology — and the design and management side — B.Des in Textile Design and B.F.Tech (Bachelor of Fashion Technology). B.Tech admission is through JEE Main and state CETs, B.Des and B.F.Tech through the NIFT and NID entrance exams, and M.Tech/M.Des through GATE and CEED. Leading institutions include the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) Mumbai, the Department of Textile Technology at IIT Delhi, the Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences Bhiwani, VJTI Mumbai, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), and the National Institute of Design (NID). Annual fees range from ₹60,000 at government institutes to ₹3–5 lakh at private colleges. Graduates work with textile mills and garment exporters, technical-textile and nonwovens manufacturers, home-furnishing and apparel brands, quality and testing labs, and retail buying houses as process engineers, production managers, textile designers, merchandisers, and quality controllers. India's large textile and apparel industry and the push into technical textiles sustain demand.
