Veterinary Science education in India centres on the 5.5-year BVSc & AH (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry) degree, including a six-month internship, regulated by the Veterinary Council of India. Admission is through NEET UG, with 15% of seats filled by ICAR through an all-India quota and the remainder through state counselling; eligibility is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Premier institutions include the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) Bareilly, the College of Veterinary Science Tirupati (SVVU), GADVASU Ludhiana, TANUVAS Chennai, KVAFSU Bidar, and Bombay Veterinary College. Government college fees range from ₹15,000–₹60,000 per year, while private and deemed colleges charge ₹1.5–6 lakh per year. After registration, graduates practise as veterinarians in government animal-husbandry departments, pet and equine clinics, dairy, poultry and livestock industries, wildlife and zoo services, the armed forces' Remount Veterinary Corps, and pharmaceutical companies, or pursue an MVSc and PhD to specialise in surgery, medicine, pathology, microbiology, or gynaecology and teach and research.
